The second Tacony (SP-5)—a wooden screw steam yacht built in 1911 as Sybilla II by Mathis Yacht Building Co., Camden, N.J., for John F. Botz, III, Essington, Pa.—was acquired by the Navy on a free lease from Jacob S. Disston, Tacony, Pa., and was commissioned on 24 May 1917.

Tacony was assigned patrol duty in the 4th Naval District through the end of World War I. On 29 November 1918, she was returned to her owner.
