Kosciusko

Thaddeus Kosciusko, born in Lithuania 12 February 1746, came to America in 1776 to assist the colonies in their struggle for independence. He distinguished himself throughout the American Revolution, especially in the defense of West Point and at the seige of Yorktown. After the American victory, Kosciusko fought with skill and courage in Europe for Polish freedom. He died in Switzerland 2 April 1817.

Lancaster No. 3, a ship in the Ellet Ram Meet, was ordered renamed Kosciusko 8 September 1862, but continued to be called Lancaster No. 3 (q.v.) or simply Lancaster.
