Captured 5 November 1863 by Fulton, Keystone State, and Nanscmond while running the Union blockade off Wilmington, N.C., sidewheel steamer Margaret and Jessie was purchased by the Navy 20 November 1863 at New York; and commissioned as Gettysburg (q.v.) 2 May 1861. at New York Navy Yard, Lt. Roswell H. Lamson in command.
