Writing about History

The Classic Period of Greece was witness to the birth of historical writing.  Herodotus is known as the father of history.  He wrote extensively on the history of the Persian Empire and the rise of Athens and Sparta. 
Thucyides wrote a complete history of the Peloponnesian Wars, one which gives us a contemporaneous insight into that conflict.
