Architecture in the Byzantine Empire

During the age of Constantine, the early Christian basilica was designed. One of the first purely Byzantine structures was the Church of Hagia Sophia built in Constantinople between 532 and 537.  The Byzantines were the first to introduce the concept of the domed round basilica.
