There Will be Bloods

There Will be Blood won two academy awards, best actor for Daniel Day Lewis and best Cinematography.  Both awards are highly deserved.  There is no question that Daniel Day Lewis put in a superb performance depicting a California oilman early in the century.  The movie presents beautifully painted images of drilling and the surrounding countryside.  Watching Daniel Day Lewis perform against the rich tableau that was provided him should be enough, and for anyone interested in the period in California or oil history it will be.  However if you are not particularly interested in the history of oil and are not a fan of Daniel Day Lewis then you can skip this film, the plot is fully predictable, and the story line is missing any real drama.  The film is rated R for some violence, I must have missed the violence that engendered that rating.
