John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on 3 January 1892 in South Africa. He moved to England with his Mother. When he was 12 his mother died. He went to King Edward's High School and then to Exeter College at Oxford.

He was creator of some of the most popular and best-loved fantasy literature, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien is considered one of the greatest in that field. Though Tolkien occupied a chair in English literature and language at Oxford, it is not his scholarly work that won him accolades but rather the mythical world of the Lord of the Rings trilogy (1954-55) and the endearing characters of The Hobbit (1937).
