Technology evolved rapidly during the Antebellum period in American history, especially when it came to the ability to move from one place to another or to send information. When the period opened the fastest you could go or transmit information was the speed of a horse. By the time the period ended both the railroads and the telegraph were in use. The most striking thing to contemplate is the fact that when the period started it would take days for information to travel from one place to another. By its end information traveled almost instantaneoulsly thank to the telegraph.
