Southern Railroad

The above locomotive is used by the Southern Railroads for heavy fast express passenger trains and fast freights in late 1890's. It would typically pull trains of eight or none heavy passenger cars for a totlal weight of 438 tons. An example of one of its runs in 1897 was between Charlootsville and Alexandria, 106 miles in one hour and fifty five minutes. The train stopped once for water, and slowed down twice while going through tows. The route included two steep grades. The engine has ac ylinder of 20x 24 inches. Its drivers are 66 inches in diameter. The engine weight 129,000 pounds
