November 10, 1776 US Alfred and the Providence capture the HMS Active a British Brigatine

November 12, 1776 US Alfred commanded by John Paul Jones and USS Providence capture the HMS Mellfish in the vicinity of Cape Cod

November 7th 1861 Battle of Port Royal- Union ships under the command of Samuel Dupont subdue the confederate forts of Beauregard and Walker

November 11th 1942
The USS Haddock sink the Tekkai Maru in the China Sea

November 8th
The Navy participates in the Invasion of North Africa- Operation Torch

November 11th
USS Southard DMS-10 destroys the the Japanese submarine I-172 off the Soloman Islands.


November 12th 1942
US Joesph Heys AP-50 was sunk by a German submarine in Fedala Roads Ñorth Africa\

Nov 12th
Naval Battle of Guadalcanal Canal-The first part of the battle took place early in the morning hours of the 13th. American cruisers; Atlanta, San Francisco, Portland and Juneau attacked a force of two battleships and support ships. The battle turned into a melee, during the course of it two American cruisers were sunk. The Japanese battleship Hei was so badly damaged that it was sunk the next day by planes. As the American force retired the cruiser Juneau was sunk by a Japanese submarine, taking with it the five Sullivan brothers. The battle continued through the next day with two Japanese cruisers sunk by American planes. Finally on the night of the 14-15 the American battleships Washington and South Dakota met a Japanese force containing the battleship Kirishima. The American force sank the Kiriishma while losing two destroyers. The South Dakota which lost electrical power at a critical moment was badly damaged.

November 16th German U-boat U-173 is sunk by the Destroyers Woolsey, Quick and Swanson off North Africa

November 24th
US Thomas Stone (AP-59) is damaged by German bombers off the coast of North Africa. It is abandoned the next day

November 30th 1942
The Battle of Tassafaronga- American forces stopped the advancing Japanese forces. The Americans sunk the Japanese Destroyers Takanami, but suffered damage to the cruisers Minneapolis, New Orleans, Northampton and the Pensacola

November 1 1943
USS Borrie DD-215 sinks the German U-Boat U 405 in the North Atlantic

November 1-2
A naval battle took place when the Japanese attempted to stop the US invasion of Bouganville. The Japanese attack was stopped and their light cruiser Sendai was sunk

November 9th The US Wahoo SS-238 was reported lost. She had left on her last war patrol on August 8th.

November 17th 1944 The USS Capelin (SS-289) left Darwin. She was never heard from again.

November 19th 1943 The USS Sculpin is crippled off Truk Island. The captain orders abandon ship, but to forestall his being captured he goes down with the sub.

November 22nd The Japanese submarine I-35 was sunk by the destroyers Frazier DD-607 and Meade DD-602.

November 24th- The USS Liscome Bay CVE 56 was sunk by a Japanese submarine in the Gilbert Islands.

November 25th 1943
The last battle of Guadacanal took place when Japanese destroyers engaged a destroyer flotilla commanded by Commander Burke. The American destroyers sunk the Japanese Destroyers Makinami, Onami and Yugiri.

November 29th
- Aircraft from the US Bogue CVE-9 sink the German submarine U-86


November 1 1944 The Abner Reade DD-526 is sunk by Japanese Kamikaze planes.

November 4, 1944
The Japanese destroyer Akibaze is sunk by the USS Pintado in the China Sea

November 5th 1944 The Japanese heavy cruiser Nachi and Patrol Boat No 107 is sunk by US naval aircraft


November 9th 1944 USS Flounder SS-251 sinkd the German Submarine U-537 in the Java Sea

November 11th 1944 Four Japanese destroyers and a minesweeper the Hamanami, Naganami, Shimakaze and Wakatsuki and the minesweeper No 30 were sunk off Leyte by carrier based aircraft.

November 13th The Japanese light cruisers Kisa, Destroyers Akenbono, Akishimo, Hatsuharu and Okinami, and the Auxiliary Submarine Chaser No 116 were sunk off Luzon by carrier based US aircraft

November 17th 1944 The Japanese submarine I 26 is sunk by destroyer escort Lawrence C taylor

The USS Spadefish SS-411 sunk the Japanese escort carrier Jinyo

November 18th 1944
The USS Spadefish S-411 sunk the Submarine Chaser Nov 156 in the Yellow Sea

November 19th 1944 The destroyer escorts Conklin DE-439, and McCoy Reynolds DE-440 sink the Japanese Submarine I-177.

November 20th 1944 The USS Mississinewa AO-59 was sunk off the Marianas by a Japanese submarine. That same day the USS Atule (SS-403) sinks the Japanese Minesweeper NO 38

November 21st 1944 The USS Sealion (SS-315) sinks the Japanese battleship Kongo and the destroyer Urakaze.

November 25th 1944
The Japanese heavy cruiser Kumano, cruiser Yasoshima and Transports No 6 and 10 are sunk

November 28th 1944 The Submarine Scabbardish (SS-397) sinks the Japanese submarine I-365

November 29th 1944

The USS Archerfish (S-311) sink the Japanese Carrier Shinano south of Honshu Island
