Lisbon Airport - Portugal
The operations of Lisbon Airport were taken over in 1978 by the public enterprise Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea (ANA). They completely renovated the airport's operations and structure, and the Lisbon airport we see today is a product of the those changes. Recently many of the facilities have undergone further modernization. There are two additional embarkation and disembarkation lounges, and a new air traffic services system now guarantees high levels of safety. Future plans include the investment of 15.8 million escudos in the improvement of aprons, lighting and runway and taxiway modifications. In 1992, the airport's passenger capacity had risen to eight million, and it now serves over five million passengers yearly. The airport has also just begun working toward establishing the capacity handle twelve million passengers each year.
