Daily Life

 

Daily life was centered around the family. The ideal consisted of a three-generation extended family. The family was linked by religious ritual.

Most Indians were farmers. While some owned land, many were tenant farmers who paid high rent. Like farmers everywhere, they had to deal with the unpredictability of the climate. Farmers in the Northern part of India grew wheat, barley and millet. In the south, cotton and spices were also cultivated.
